Giving back to the community
In life one of the most rewarding and powerful things you can do is to give back to your community. There is nothing better than the feeling of knowing that you have made a positive impact in someone’s life. At Dr. Bishop & Associates we are always looking for new ways to GIVE BACK. We work with LensCrafters on a program called OneSight and we have also worked with charities such as Mustard Seed. We want to shed a new light on another organization which our optometrists; Dr. Tailor, Dr. Gerlitz and Dr. Hoang are currently involved with.
These doctors volunteer their time and expertise with a non-profit organization called CUPS (Calgary Urban Project Society). CUPS Health is a series of programs and services dedicated to providing primary health care for adults and families living in poverty. Clinics are staffed by a multidisciplinary team of clinicians (which includes our optometrists), specialists and mental health counsellors who work collaboratively and enable complex patients with quick access to CUPS’ integrated services.
CUPS Health is resourceful and innovative; they go beyond basic care to address the physical, emotional, and social issues that lead to poor health.
CUPS also provides outreach health care to 6 Calgary shelters, including The Calgary Drop In Centre, The Mustard Seed, Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelters, Brenda’s House, Alpha House and Awo Taan Healing Lodge.
Not only does CUPS Health provide Optometry services but they also provide:
- Primary Health Clinic
- Women’s Health Clinic
- Hepatitis C Clinic
- Shared Care Mental Health
- Outreach Programs
- Opioid Substitution Therapy
- Specialist Care
- Diabetes Group
- Foot Care
- Case Management
- Immunizations and Lab Work
Along with health services CUPS also provides education and housing services. If you would like to find out more information about this non-profit organization or if you would like to donate to CUPS visit their website www.cupscalgary.com
